Where Chefry's Fees Actually Go

·5 min read

Most platforms bury their fees in a help center and hope you never do the math. We would rather show you the math. This page lists every fee on Chefry, who pays it, and what it actually covers.

The fees, in one list

  • Menu pre-orders: 0% commission for the chef. You set a menu price and you keep it. Your customer pays a flat 5% service fee at checkout, shown on their receipt.
  • Services (private chef, catering, meal prep): 15% standard commission. This comes out of the service price, and it is the number the founding program cuts. Founding Chefs pay 0% in year one, 5% in years two and three, then 10%.
  • Groceries and ingredients: 0%. Reimbursements pass straight through to the chef with no commission.
  • Tips: 100% to the chef. No platform fee on tips, ever.

Chefs who want a lower service rate without the founding program can also subscribe to a paid tier on the pricing page.

What the money pays for

Fees are not profit padding. Here is where they go, roughly in order of size:

  • Card processing. Every payment runs through Stripe, and the card networks take their cut of every single charge. This is the largest cost on most orders and it exists on every platform, whether they show it to you or not.
  • Servers and cloud storage. Your menus, food photos, order history, customer lists, and receipts live on infrastructure that runs every minute of every day. Storage and compute are billed to us monthly, and they grow with every chef who joins.
  • Texts, emails, and push notifications. Order confirmations, pickup reminders, and the messages that bring your customers back all cost real money per send.
  • Building the platform. Payout automation, prep lists, the marketplace, delivery options, and support. Everything left over goes back into tools for you.

Keep 100% of your menu price on pre-orders.

The honest framing

We only make money when you do. There is no monthly fee to be on Chefry, no listing fee, and no charge to set up a profile. If you never sell, you never pay. That keeps the pressure where it belongs: on us to bring you customers and keep the platform worth your time. If you are comparing options, our platform comparison puts these numbers side by side with the alternatives.
